Sydmar Lodge

Sydmar Lodge provides expert care and support for people over the age of 65.

The home offers both residential and respite care and is aimed primarily at people from the Jewish community. We provide personalised care based on people’s choices, needs and wishes.

Sydmar Lodge has 52 ensuite bedrooms, a spacious dining room, a library and two stylish lounges where residents can relax in comfort. As well as offering space and quiet areas, Sydmar Lodge is designed to provide maximum comfort and support. Each floor is serviced by two large lifts which can accommodate two wheelchairs as well as handrails in the halls.

We enable people to maintain lifestyles that are as similar as possible to those enjoyed at home. We encourage regular interaction with the local community, including contact with friends, family and local groups. We encourage friends and family to be involved through regular visits and participation at special activities, events and open days.

We have a variety of daily leisure activities including traditional games, classical music recitals, arts and crafts, painting and film nights. We go on excursions further afield in our minibus enabling residents to become involved with social events with the local community as well as celebrating Jewish holidays including Sukkot and Hanukkah.

Sydmar Lodge offers a variety of onsite facilities, including a hairdressing salon with a visiting stylist. People also benefit from regular visits from manicurists, beauticians, chiropodists and opticians. We have established strong links with the local community and residents enjoy regular visits from schools and charity groups, as well as weekly talks with a Rabbi from a nearby synagogue.

Meal times are an important part of the day at Sydmar Lodge. Table service in the dining room is standard for mealtimes and we are happy to serve meals elsewhere, including breakfast in bed. Our experienced catering staff prepare a varied menu of home-cooked food every day and we observe traditional Jewish meal customs including the Sabbath as well as cooking, preparing and serving food that is kosher.

We cater for individual likes and dislikes from a cultural, religious and choice perspective and although Sydmar Lodge is a Jewish home we welcome all individuals regardless of their beliefs, religion or culture.

We aim to empower residents to make their own choices about how they live their lives. We believe that every individual irrespective of their physical, social or psychological condition has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and supported to maintain choice and control over their own lives.

We understand that people bring with them a life story of achievements, events and life experiences. We know that this information is essential to ensure a tailored care package for each individual’s specific needs, particularly for those with memory loss.

We ensure that our person-centred assessments are all tailored to the whole person and we will look at what people can do, not just what they need assistance with. Most importantly we ensure that the individual themselves and their loved ones help us to put together a bespoke plan of care. We appreciate how difficult the decision is to move into permanent or even short stay care and we aim to make this transition as easy as possible.

Residents can benefit from hydrotherapy massages using specialist baths that have rising chairs and side opening doors to enable easy access. Most of our baths are also fitted with a facility for relaxation and therapeutic sessions.

The home is located in the heart of Edgware and offers access to a range of shops and other local amenities. It has excellent transport links to central London and the surrounding area.

We have a tranquil south-facing garden with a patio where people can participate in gardening, or enjoy afternoon tea on the lawn with friends and relatives.

“The staff/carers are most kind and willing to do anything to make my husband comfortable and they generate warmth and general well being always.”
